What is Willits
Willits is a traditional community - a rich mix of houses and townhouses; parks and playgrounds; shops and businesses. Tree-lined streets and front porches, day care and public transportation. Family and friends. Inspired by the pedestrian-friendly, pre-automobile, 19th century towns of the Roaring Fork Valley, Willits borrows from Aspen and Basalt a small town look and feel as well as a Western architectural language that combines Victorian, Cottage, and Farmhouse influences. Willits neighborhoods are organized around parks and safe streets, and stores are planned along a conventional Main Street and a Town Square. The rolling terrain of the Village Green stretches the length of Willits and includes a lake, a soccer field, playgrounds, biking and walking trails, and fields and meadows. The Town Center will have restaurants, shops with apartments upstairs, opportunities for local, regional, and national business, a Performing Arts Center, a Hotel, Government Office Building, a Town Square and state-of-the-art Broadband access. All just a few minutes walk from every house.

Willits Town Center
 
The Willits Town Center is the traditionally planned downtown core of Willits, a 150 acre new town under construction in Basalt, Colorado, 22 miles west of Aspen. Development of residential neighborhoods has been taking place over the last several years and approximately 140 houses and townhouses are now occupied and residents are enjoying 20 acres of completed parks, a playground, the soccer field, trails, and our lake. Ultimately there will be about 525 houses and townhouses outside the Town Center.

The Willits Town Center has been planned as a traditional downtown with a regular gridded street system, tree-lined streets, on-street parking and buildings that front broad sidewalks. There will be mixed use buildings with ground floor retail, second floor office space and third floor residences as well as single use 2 and 3 story buildings. We are planning live/work buildings that will allow for traditional apartments over on-street work/business storefronts. There will be a Town Square and Pocket Parks and locations have been established for a Performing Arts Building, a Government Office Building, a Hotel, and a Transit Facility/Park and Ride Lot adjacent to Highway 82. The Town Center has been planned and fully approved to be a vital mix of 600,000 square feet of working, shopping, living, culture and recreation organized along a 'Main Street' reminiscent of the beloved 19th century towns of the Roaring Fork Valley.

The Willits Town Center is located in the heart of the rapidly growing Mid-Valley, midway between Aspen and Glenwood Springs and adjacent to the City Market complex - already the commercial heart of the Mid-Valley. The fiber optic backbone that services the Roaring Fork Valley runs along the property and a spur has already been brought into Willits. The Town Center will be developed to accommodate ongoing technological innovations.

Downtown shopping has increasingly become a form of entertainment and recreation. The Town Center will serve not only the residents of the Roaring Fork Valley, but the tourists for whom shopping is part of the vacation experience. We can accommodate the smallest user or a mid-size box and any size in between. Architectural Design Controls have been developed to assure that each building contributes to a familiar small town character of storefront lined streets. In addition to on- street parking, there will be parking behind buildings in carefully planned and landscaped lots.

With over 200,000 square feet earmarked for office space, Willits is poised to be the workplace/technology center of the Roaring Fork Valley and to take advantage of the migration of highly educated workers and entrepreneurs in knowledge-based business to places that offer a rich quality of life. Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley offer an unparrelled mix of recreation, culture, and safe, healthy 'small town' living. Basalt has already been discovered by the New Economy. In 2000, three new economy businesses relocated to Basalt, employing about 100 people. And the relocation of offices out of Aspen into the Basalt area to be closer to the labor pool is an ongoing trend. And now that broadband is available at Willits, these trends should accelerate. The Willits Town Center will be a highly desirable, state-of-the-art workplace with shops, recreation, and a variety of housing options within walking distance.

Willits Residential
The Willits House Sites sit along tree-lined streets of traditionally styled houses with front porches and garages set back from the front facade of the house. The lots are from 6000 Sq. Ft -9000 Sq. Ft - similar in size to the lots in the West End of Aspen. Each lot is within a Block of the Willits Town Park with its trail connections to the Willits Town Center, Lakeside Park, Town Park and the integrated Trail System that interconnects the Mid-Valley. The Willits Design Controls and the Design Review Board will assure a consistency of architectural character and at the same time avoid the repetition of similar designs. Lipkin Warner Design and Planning has designed a series of houses specifically for Willits that are consistent with the traditional character of Willits and the Roaring Fork Valley. However, you are free to develop your own design working with our Design Controls and Design Review Board.

House Plans
Lipkin Warner Design and Planning has designed a series of houses specifically for Willits that are consistent with the traditional character of Willits and the Roaring Fork Valley. The plans are reflective of the Willits Design Controls and maximize the design opportunities of the individual lots. The purchase of these plans includes a complete package ready for construction - complete architectural and structural plans, a site plan for your particular lot, an initial landscape plan, Design Review Board approval, and consultation on exterior colors. Opportunities exist for some customization as Lipkin Warner Design and Planning continues to develop new house designs for Willits.

Willits Townhouses
The Willits Townhouses are nestled in among mature Cottonwoods that follow the scenic irrigation ditches that serviced Willits when it was ranch land and still flow today. The Willits Townhouses are offered in a variety of floor plans garage in cluster of two to five units. Each unit is 2 stories with 3 bedroom with a cathedral-ceilinged Greatroom and a two car garage. Home offices are included in some floor plans. Willits Townhouses range in size from approximately 1850 Sq. Ft. to 2150 Sq. Ft. All residences have decks or terraces. Each residence is close to the trail system that  connects through the Town Park to the Willits Town Center.

Lakeside Townhouses
The Lakeside Townhouses  are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom townhouses with garages and 1 and 2 bedroom condominiums. They range in size from approximately 650 Sq. Ft. to 1450 Sq. Ft. All residences have decks or terraces, front on the Lakeside Park, and overlook Willits Lake. The trail system that circles Willits Lake connects through the Town Park to the Willits Town Center.
